By Pauline Cheung WGSN, 19 March 2014
Blues and greens are key this season with vibrant new blues leading into lively greens, sitting fresh next to energetic vitamin colours.

Trend checklist

  • Warm colours: WGSN’s Vital trend is referenced with yellows and zesty lemons being key. Oranges make a return working as a relaxed yet energetic colour that appears as a staple. Deep tones of red and deep coral work well for intense summer colour
  • Cool colours: blues are a strong message leading the way in both dark and vibrant shades, from ultramarine to bright Cyan blue. Blue-greens appear directional and are a fresh approach for blues
  • Pastels: oranges, pinks and yellows are faded and washed out but still vibrant for summery shades. Compliment with white and mid greens or ground with the darks
  • Neutrals: white is a key message with the abundance of textured materials on offer this season. Cool grey appears next to whites as a directional accompaniment
  • Darks: deep inky indigo remains important along with viridian worked as an alternative to black as core colour
  • Metallics: gold is still visible for the season, Commercially pale and matt gold are a more sophisticated option. Directional metallics shift into iridescent shades, and silver makes a return working with white as coatings for a slight shimmer

Tonal & textured whites

Bright whites emerge with layers of surface interest brought through the use of printing and embroidery techniques such as laser cutting combined with layers of tonal white neutrals including pumice and parchment. Look to WGSN’s Documented textile forecast for more inspiration.

Tinted pastels

In line with WGSN's spring/summer 2015 matrix, pale tints of pastels lean towards the pinks for the Chinese market. Petal, rose and apricot sit next to ultra-pale lemon, celadon and airy baby blue, all further enhanced by tone-on-tone textures.
