Interior design studio and gallery 19 Greek
Street is celebrating the natural world in design form this week, with
its new Forces of Nature show.
Luffa Acoustic Tiles by Mauricio Affonso
Presenting
work from seven designers, the show draws together practitioners who
‘share an optimistic view on the future of design’, according to 19
Greek Street.
Kite Stool by Blakebrough and King
Marc
PĂ©ridis, 19 Greek Street creative director, says, ‘We must constantly
challenge our ways of thinking about design and resourcefulness.
Previously developed processes should merely be a guide for our
practice.
‘It is our responsibility to ensure we are doing
everything we can to use the earth’s most abundant resources to their
fullest potential’.
Windworks by Merel Karhof
Among
the highlights of the show are the Windworks furniture pieces by
Netherlands-born designer Merel Karhof. The works use wood, upholstery,
dyeing and knitted yarn created exclusively using wind power.
U-Stool by Yakuya Hamajima
Elsewhere,
the dramatic curves of the U-Stool by Yakuya Hamajima caught our eye.
According to 19 Greek Street, the designer’s focus in creating the stool
was to ‘connect the individual with the world in a harmonic
relationship.’ Materials include sandrock from Hamajima’s family back
garden.
Another
designer to draw inspiration from the immediate surroundings is Lucy
Norman, who will present Sun Sill. The device is mounted under a window
to redirect light indoors, aiming to showcase how light changes
throughout the day, and also reduce our need for artificial, electronic
light sources.
Desert Storm by Nir Meiri
Forces of Nature runs from 13 March – 28 April at 19 Greek Street, Soho, London W1D
